Matilda Villas is organizing an ice fishing competition on Saturday, March 8th, 2025, in honor of Women's Day, in Mathildedal, Salo.
The ice fishing competition has great prizes. The main prizes in the Competition Series include:

eLite Electric Outboard Motor / 500W outboard motor. Value approximately €1000.

2 x Garmin STRIKER Vivid 5vc sonar set. Value approximately €550 per set.

Garmin vívomove Trend sports watch. Value approximately €350.

VMB Fishing gift card. Value approximately €500.

Canal cleaning performed by Nuohous Salo Oy. Value approximately €500-700 (area Salo region).

The event is carried out in cooperation with fishing professionals, and we comply with laws and official regulations to ensure that the competition remains fair and safe for all competitors.
Mathildedal is an area where the history of a steel village, stunning nature and an active village community come together in a unique way. The competition takes place in the area's scenic fishing area by the sea.
The Matilda Villas ice fishing competition is being organised for the first time, and we hope that this will become an annual ice fishing event for our area.
This year we will compete in two different series:

The competition series, where you compete according to the weight of your catch as an individual performance and follow official rules.

The ice fishing captains series, where things are much more relaxed and the rules are very informal.

You participate in the ice fishing captains competition as a team. The focus is mainly on having fun, and things other than ice fishing become more important in terms of the final result.
Our goal is to create a real ice fishing craze in the Salo region and offer all visitors a wonderful winter day in the stunning scenery of Mathildedal. The event combines a relaxed atmosphere, fresh air and beautiful nature (not to mention delicious sausages and great prizes), making it the perfect opportunity to enjoy winter and the racing spirit.

We compete in two series
1. Official Competition Series
Participants compete in individual competitions, where the winner is decided based on the total weight of the day's catch.
Competition Series:
Women
Men
Youth (12–17 years old)
Children (under 12 years old)
The competition series follows official rules, and the competition is strictly conducted in the spirit of fair play. This series is suitable for those who enjoy goal-oriented and rule-based competition.
2. Matilda Villas Ice Fishing Captain Competition (Höntsä Series)
The Höntsä Series offers a more relaxed “ice fishing” in teams (2–6 people). This series is full of fun special rules and tasks that lead teams around the Mathildedal landscape.
In this competition, ice fishing does not necessarily mean sitting by the hole – or even lifting a fish out of the water. If the team's tactics include "eye-catching ice" with good company and a thermos, that too counts as a success!
The only rule of the Höntsä series:
The team must arrive at the weigh-in with a fish. Where did the fish come from? Let that remain a secret for your team.
The most important thing in the ice fishing captains' competition is the journey, laughter and a good mood. So gather your friends and go spend a fun winter day in the beautiful Mathildedal landscape!

Ice Fishing instruction for children
The event program also includes ice fishing instruction for children and their guardians.
A separate area has been reserved for them for ice fishing and their guidance is provided by professionals in the field.
Ice fishing equipment for children's ice fishing can be found in the area. Welcome to try ice fishing with the whole family!
There will be a sausage stand for treats and music to lift the mood in the event area. Good spirits and a great opportunity to enjoy the winter outdoors are guaranteed. Welcome to enjoy the fun competition atmosphere, even if you don't participate in the ice skating competition!

We monitor the ice conditions daily. The competition will only be held if the ice conditions allow it.
We will notify you of the cancellation on this website and by email to those who have registered. We will refund the registration fee if the event is canceled.

Matilda Villas (Karvarinkulma 1-18) will have open doors during the race, so you are welcome to explore our nice cottage village. We will be raffling off a gift certificate among all visitors, which entitles you to a cottage weekend at our place.
